When was the last time you got a letter? A piece of paper (or two or three) with a series of complete, well-considered sentences written specifically for you by the hand of someone you know, maybe even someone you love, with a pen of his or her choosing, signed, carefully folded, addressed, stamped and delivered to your home by the U.S. Postal Service?

Yeah, I can't remember either.

A card doesn't count, right?

Can't remember. It's AT LEAST 10 years, probably closer to 15.

And you know what? I don't miss it.

and you probably think this year's Convention on New Trends in Communication Technology ("Geek Out Toledo, 2005!") would make for a romantic weekend getaway.

AJ, I weep for your loveless soul ;)

A year and a half ago, probably. The counter question would be when did you last write one? The immediacy of e-mail is hard to pass up, but an actual letter, even a verbose postcard in a dear friend's handwriting is something special.
